For over 40 years, Susana G. Hinojosa has dedicated her life to studying, performing and teaching Mexican folkloric dance. She began dancing as a young child and by the time she was a teen, became a member of the longest established Folklorico dance ensemble. Registration is required; space is limited. Museum Day goes beyond getting visitors through museum doors—it acts as a springboard to empower and help advance the hopes and ambitions of the public, particularly school-aged children and those in underrepresented communities. It represents a national commitment to access, equity and inclusion. This year’s theme, The American Experience, shines a spotlight on wonderful arts, culture, sciences, innovation and history exhibits across the country.
Drawing inspiration from the work Oaxacan artist Narsiso Martinez, participants will learn how to draw figures in charcoal. All materials are provided. Registration required. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty! This is a beginner’s class. Guest teaching artist Marcus Masaki Rodriquez.

In this talk, Dr. Fredy González (University of Illinois at Chicago) will give a brief history of Chinese immigration to Mexico during the twentieth century and illustrate some of the ways the Chinese contributed to and claimed belonging to the Mexican nation.
